Just one note of perfume, the smell of rain on the asphalt or fresh baked goods can be enough to instantly bring us back to a time in our lives. Scientists have proven that, unlike a picture or a word, a smell does not first pass through the rational part of the brain, but is directly associated with emotions and memories. It is precisely for this reason that we often cannot explain why a particular scent makes us sad, makes us happy, evokes memories or awakens nostalgia.

Science explains that the sense of smell is directly connected to the limbic system, the part of the brain that is responsible for emotions and memory. That’s why smells can leave a strong emotional mark, compared to all other senses. When we smell a scent for the first time, our brain associates it with people, places and all those feelings from that moment. Each subsequent encounter with the same scent can awaken the same mood in us, even after many years.

That’s why fragrances represent a real treasure trove of memories, in which childhood moments, dear people, travels, love and the feeling of the warmth of home remain preserved.

It was Marcel Proust who wrote about it in his book “In Search of Lost Time”, describing how the smell and taste of tea and cookies awakened all those long-forgotten childhood memories. In this way, he showed us how such a “simple” sense can have so much power to instantly take us back to the past and revive all those emotions that we thought had long since disappeared.

Perfume as a personal signature

People are not only looking for a “nice perfume”, but a scent in which they will recognize themselves, the way a person wants to be remembered. Because even before we see someone, we smell their scent, and that’s where the first impression is made.

For this reason, people search for their perfume for a long time. It is no longer just about trends and some popular notes, but about the feeling that the perfume evokes. Each person has different desires, some care to appear gentle and calm, some want to leave a mysterious and seductive impression, and some want to make an elegant and powerful impression. The right choice of perfume can contribute to all of this, and then we can talk about the smell becoming a kind of non-verbal communication. When we add to that the association with a certain person, place or event, the perfume acquires a special value. After a certain time, we no longer perceive the smell as just a perfume, but as part of a person’s identity, that is, their personal signature.

The use of fragrance throughout history was not only a part of personal care, it represented an important part of different cultures and traditions around the world. Just think of the smell of incense in churches and temples, the aromas of the most diverse spices in the markets and bazaars of the Middle East, all the way to the sumptuous floral notes that filled the courts of the European aristocracy. It is clear that fragrances have had a special place in people’s daily lives for centuries, and even today their role in society and the beauty industry is extremely large.

Modern perfumes now offer countless combinations of notes that are adapted to different styles, emotions and characters, so everyone can find a scent that best suits their personality and moment.

Why oriental perfumes leave a strong impression

When oriental perfumes are mentioned, the first association with them is a special depth and warmth due to which they leave a really striking and intense impression. Thanks to the dominant notes in these perfumes, such as oud, amber, musk, incense, resin and spices, we get a rich, layered and sensual fragrance.

Unlike light citrus or floral perfumes, oriental fragrances develop much more slowly and remain on the skin for a long time. We have a feeling of power, refined luxury and carry a touch of mystery and warmth. For this reason, people often associate them with elegance, evening outings, strong emotions.

Oud gives the perfume a really deep woody note, amber brings warmth and softness, and musk leaves a very sensual and intimate trace. Incense and spices associate us with a distant, mystical world. Due to their layering and strength, these perfumes cannot go unnoticed. The wealth of fragrant notes in them creates a special atmosphere and arouses emotions, which is why they can remain in people’s memories for a long time.

Oriental fragrances represent one of the oldest perfume traditions, which were created under the strong influence of Arab, Persian, Indian and Egyptian culture. The name “oriental” is used to describe rich, intense and exotic fragrance compositions. Classics, such as Yves Saint Laurent’s Opium perfume, introduced in 1977, played a major role in the popularization of oriental perfumes in the West. Its extremely rich and intense notes brought fragrances that exude warmth, sensuality and that exotic atmosphere of the East closer to the audience. After that, oriental perfumes became a symbol of elegance, luxury and striking character, and their popularity continues today thanks to deep, seductive compositions that leave a strong impression.

Smell and character

The way we choose a perfume often says a lot about our character. Some people like clean, fresh and minimalist scents because they are looking for a dose of simplicity, neatness and lightness. They want to be unobtrusive, but also to leave a pleasant, elegant mark.

On the other hand, we have people who are more likely to reach for strong, rich and dominant perfumes. Through such fragrances, they want to awaken self-confidence, to feel more energetic, more present, to leave an impression and a striking mark.

Also, someone chooses powdery and gentler notes because they are looking for a feeling of warmth and security, and someone prefers dark woody or spicy scents that seem mysterious and powerful. That’s why we can’t really consider perfume only as an aesthetic accessory, but as a way of expressing our personality, character and identity.

Smell often speaks about us even before we speak, their strong emotional value is omnipresent, as well as the message we want to send to others. This is exactly why perfumes are our personal stamp. Depending on our current mood, we also choose perfumes that will convey the emotion we want to express in the right way. Thus, perfume becomes a reflection of our inner state, but also of the energy we carry within us.

Smell as the most intimate sense One of the deepest and most personal senses that man possesses is exactly smell.
